Traffic Design and Traffic Studies

Traffic

We ensure that transportation infrastructure is designed and operated in an efficient and safe manner, to improve the safety and mobility of the transportation system and to accommodate the needs of different types of users.

  • Traffic design involves creating plans and specifications for the construction of transportation infrastructure such as roads, highways, and bridges. This includes the layout of the road, the design of intersections, the placement of traffic signals and signs, the design of pavements and shoulders and the design of sidewalks, bike lanes and other facilities for non-motorized users. Tyme Consulting Engineers, Inc use software and models to simulate traffic flows and to ensure that the design can accommodate the expected traffic volume and meet safety and efficiency standards. Our staff also consider the needs of the different types of users, such as cars, trucks, buses, bicycles, and pedestrians.
  • Traffic studies, on the other hand, are used to analyze the existing and future traffic conditions of a particular area. These studies typically include data collection, such as traffic counts, speed studies, origin-destination studies and turning movement counts, and the use of computer models to analyze the data. The results of these studies are used to identify traffic problems and to develop solutions, such as traffic signal timing, road improvements, and the addition of new infrastructure. These studies also help to identify the level of service on the transportation system and to identify the potential impact of new developments and land use changes on the transportation system.
